An awesome book that enlightens readers with facts and science on subjects that we had always assumed to be true. Well if you read this book, you will agree that it is not. I particularly liked, Can Diamond cut it, Women speak more than men, poisonous potatoes, and mobile phone cooks egg.
Dr Karl Kruszelnicki's usual high standard of busting myths and old wives tales books isn't reached with his latest effort Please Explain. It seems like he's running out of material with most subjects in this volume not particularly too interesting and with others such as the first subject does eating celery make you lighter as digesting takes more energy than is in the celery itself, he never really gives an answer just waffles on with facts and statistics. Dr Karl does tackle a few interesting subject in Please Explain such as are green potatoes poisonous? Should you dress wounds? Do women speak more than men? Are potatoes originally from Ireland? Does adding salt to water make it boil faster? Ovarian cancer and pap smears.
Dr Karl Kruszelnicki has a lot of great books and his best two books in my opinion are Q & A with Dr. K or Great Mythconceptions The Science Behind the Myths.
All Dr Karl"s books are important information presented in an easy to read easy to understand way, it's a pity that school in the late 1960's did not teach this way.
